About us

Jake, Em & Ned

G'day!

I’m Jake, your local chippie and this is my beautiful partner, Emily and mischievous Ned, our Aussie Shepherd. We are based in Serpentine, Western Australia (Pindjarup Country) and absolutely love the rural lifestyle and enjoy nothing more than being outdoors with nature, living the Aussie dream.
Emily and I are both proud Uncle & Aunty to many nieces and nephews and are clearly the fun ones, with chooks, ducks, worm farms, mower rides & veggie patches to explore and get down and dirty and back to nature!
In today's society with increasing technology use, and shrinking land sizes we wanted to look to designing open ended outdoor play equipment that would engage the little ones in a natural environment.  We wanted to create spaces that would spark that love of playing outdoors like when we were kids, and would head down to the local park and make mud pies for our neighbours or, cook up a potion with rocks we found and leaves that had fallen from the trees. As adults we both realise now how much that time exploring the world around us, and using our imaginations was actually critical in nurturing our developing minds, bodies and independence.
As a qualified carpenter and joiner I have had the pleasure of working in the industry for 15 years, 5 of those years, running my own successful carpentry business servicing our local community. Our love for the outdoors and all its benefits is why we have decided to pair our passion with our craftsmanship and launch Learn by Nature.  Learn by Nature endeavours to create and build outdoor nature play equipment and mud kitchens using locally sourced carbon neutral materials that support sustainable play and the planet while still looking aesthetically pleasing in your back yard or play ground. We are proud Forrest & Wood Products Australia Associate Members and take pride in our passion for timber and its place as a incredibly valuable renewable resource.  All our products are hand made my myself and often with a bit of artistic help from Em.
We can't thank you enough for following along and supporting our passion for outdoor play. We promise you will love our creations just as much as your kids will and you'll be able to enjoy your hot cuppa knowing full well your kids are in great hands.
